About Me (Rowan)

Building Connections and Creating Change through Art and Play

All my life I have enjoyed making art from whatever is around me. From using natural materials to create art to help forest school groups connect with nature to upcycling products that would otherwise go to landfill to make art with community groups to highlight local issues and build community cohesion.

Give me a challenge to work with materials I have never used before. Give me a cause that needs fighting for. Give me a hearts to connect with nature and hands to connect in community. Give me a plot of land that needs transforming (gardening is one of my favourite forms of art and resistance - and you get vegetables too!). I know I can't heal the whole world with art and play but I'm determined to do what I can, each small moment at a time.

My favourite recent projects are:

Starting up and running 'The Monksdale Community Plot' in Bath (2013) for families to come together grow vegetables and make art together.

Designing a heritage trail, interpretation boards and play based education program for Cassiobury Park in Watford.(2016)

Building a giant Canary puppet for a protest against the expansion of an opencast coal mine in County Durham (2020)

I still need to choose a couple from 2020 onwards but I'm having trouble making up my mind.
